"Happy Town" was released in 1997 on Atlantic records. 

 

After my self-titled record, I decided to write a kind of strange and depressing album. The label didn’t think that was the best idea, and they were probably right. But, I love this record in all it’s honesty and experimentation. I learned to play drums, and you can hear that on “Bitter” and “Love is Never Equal”. There are songs about the Christian Right, the Holocaust, anti-depressants and the decision to have or not have kids - all the stuff pop radio is dying to play. I got dropped from the label after this one, but…I’m so proud  of it
