Pinko Records Manifesto
by Norm Magnusson
The history of all hitherto existing recording industry business is the history of crass struggle between the artist and the label. We've found a new way. PINKO RECORDS. What we stand for:
From Sister Jill: Pinko Records was born in 2008 as an alternative to the pointless and antiquated record label tradition. My idea — especially since I had no funds of my own — was to bring in and get help from the ones who care about the music the most: the fans. I created a site (jillsnextrecord.com) where they could donate, at different levels, in exchange for various gifts (like house concerts and personal theme songs). They also had a say on what songs would eventually make it on the record. I expect to continue this relationship — asking for their advice and opinions — as they actually know what they are talking about. As of now, Pinko Records has just one record: mine. But I see a future where fans, friends, and anyone that comes to this site, can suggest an artist they love who needs the attention and funds to make their own record. We could put up, for example, demos or videos for all to hear. We could then decide if we want to help. I am up for any and all suggestions. Be a part of the Pinko Records mini-revolution.
